Does a Longer Work Horizon Affect Offsprings' Labour Market Outcomes?

Abstract This paper studies the effect of an increase in work horizon middle aged workers on school-work transition their offsprings 15–29 years. I exploit variation parental induced by 2012 Fornero reform Italy that abruptly changed age and years social security contribution requirements for pension eligibility. Utilising a difference-in-difference strategy multi-valued treatment setting, study shows reform-induced mothers caused probability seeking first job decrease these offsprings’ being student. is higher among who are male, those 15–21, with without University degree southern Italy. Fathers did not significantly affect student status or any labour market outcomes offsprings. Mechanisms behind findings include longer vs. fathers, consequent positive mothers’ lifetime earnings.
